The five temples
Each temple is dedicated to a Jain Tirthankara, and each has its own highlights. The oldest, dedicated to Adinath, dates from the 11th century and is famous for its domed ceiling.

- Neminath Temple (Luna Vasahi)
- Rishabhdev Temple (Pittalhar)
- Parshvanath Temple
- Mahavir Swami Temple
Festivals
Paryushan, the Jain period of fasting, reflection and forgiveness, is observed in August or September. Mahavir Jayanti, marking the birth of Lord Mahavira, falls in March or April and brings many pilgrims.
Timings and rules
For non-Jain visitors, the temples are open from about 12 noon to 5 pm. Mornings are reserved for worship. Photography is not permitted inside, and phones, cameras and leather items must be left outside. Heads should be covered, and black clothing is best avoided; general temple etiquette, such as modest dress and removing footwear, also applies.
Best time to visit
The temples are open throughout the year, but October to March brings the most pleasant weather in Mount Abu. Arrive soon after opening to avoid the biggest crowds and to have time for a guided walk through the complex. A local guide is worth hiring, as the carvings tell stories from Jain tradition that are easy to miss without explanation. Allow one to two hours to see all five temples at a relaxed pace.
How to reach
The temples lie under 3 km from the centre of Mount Abu, an easy taxi or jeep ride. Abu Road is the nearest railway station, and Udaipur has the nearest airport. We can include Dilwara in a Mount Abu and Udaipur tour.
