Every year more of our travellers choose Singapore for their first trip outside India. The flight is short, English is everywhere, vegetarian and South Indian food is easy to find, and the city works like clockwork. This guide covers what we tell every family before they book one of our Singapore tour packages from Chennai.
Visa for Indian passport holders
Indian citizens need a Singapore visa before travel. It is applied for through an authorised visa agent with your passport details, photograph, flight and hotel bookings and supporting documents. We handle the application as part of the package. Allow at least two to three weeks before departure, and make sure your passport is valid for six months beyond your return. Singapore also asks every arriving visitor to submit the online SG Arrival Card in the days before arrival — we send you the link and a reminder. Rules can change, so we confirm the current requirements when we quote.
Flights from Chennai
Direct flights take about four hours, with both daytime and overnight options. An overnight flight saves a hotel night but makes the first day tiring for children and elders — we usually suggest a morning departure.
A 6-day Singapore plan
- Arrive, Sentosa: check in, then an afternoon and evening on Sentosa Island.
- Universal Studios or Gardens by the Bay: a full day at the theme park, or the Supertree Grove and the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest.
- City tour: Merlion Park, the Civic District, Chinatown and Little India; the evening light show at Marina Bay.
- Mandai: Bird Paradise by day and the Night Safari after dark.
- Free day: Orchard Road, Mustafa Centre, the SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands.
- Depart: leave time for the Jewel and its indoor waterfall at Changi.
Best time to visit
Singapore is a year-round destination — warm and humid every month, with short tropical showers. February to April is usually the driest; November to January is wetter. Indian school holidays (April–May and December) are the busiest and dearest, so book those dates early.
What affects the cost
The main things are your travel dates, flight timings, the hotel’s area and category, and which paid attractions you add. A hotel near an MRT station saves taxi fares every day. We send a written, itemised quote so you can see exactly where the money goes — there are no hidden charges.
Useful tips
- The currency is the Singapore dollar (SGD); cards are accepted almost everywhere.
- Plugs are the three-pin UK type — carry an adapter.
- Littering, smoking in non-smoking areas and eating on the MRT bring fines; the city is strict and very safe.
- Combine with Malaysia, or a short Singapore and Malaysia cruise, for a longer holiday.
