About the trip

The Ajanta Caves are about thirty rock-cut Buddhist caves carved into a horseshoe gorge above the Waghur river, with murals dating back nearly two thousand years. They are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest records of early Indian painting. The road from Aurangabad heads north through Sillod, and the trip fits comfortably into a single day.

On the road

The road runs north via Sillod to the T-junction car park, where eco-buses take you to the caves. Leave by 7:30 am; the caves are closed on Mondays.
