About the trip
Valparai is a quiet hill town surrounded by tea and coffee estates in the Anamalai hills. Unlike Ooty it sees fewer crowds, so people go for the calm, the mist and the chance to spot lion-tailed macaques and elephants near the road. The climb from Aliyar has 40 numbered hairpin bends with views over the dam. It can be done in a day, though a night stay is more relaxed.
