About the trip
Alleppey, or Alappuzha, is where most visitors experience Kerala's backwaters, gliding past paddy fields, churches and village homes on a houseboat or small shikara. From Trivandrum it is an easy trip north along the coast, and many travellers make it a day cruise rather than an overnight stay. The highway passes Kollam and Kayamkulam through coconut country.
