About the trip
Kumarakom is a cluster of villages on the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake, close to Kottayam, known for its canals, coconut groves and houseboats. Families come for a slow day on the water, birdwatching or a night on a houseboat. The drive runs north along the MC Road through Kottarakkara and Chengannur, a steady inland route with plenty of towns for tea and fuel.
