About the trip
Alleppey, or Alappuzha, is the centre of Kerala's backwaters, a maze of lakes, canals and paddy fields lived along by fishing and farming villages. Visitors come for houseboat and shikara cruises, lazy lunches of Kerala fish curry and the long Alappuzha beach. The drive down NH 66 is short, so a day cruise and return to Cochin fits comfortably.
