Why hire a car with a driver here
Cochin is split between the mainland at Ernakulam, the islands of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, and the airport far to the north at Nedumbassery. Getting between them with luggage is tiring without a car. A driver who knows the bridges and ferry-side lanes makes city sightseeing easy. Most visitors also use Cochin to start a Kerala trip, and an experienced driver on the ghat roads to Munnar and Thekkady, or the flat run to Alleppey's houseboats, makes all the difference.

Local tips
- Airport traffic on the NH 544 stretch can be heavy; allow 90 minutes for evening flights.
- Mattancherry Palace is closed on Fridays and the synagogue on Fridays, Saturdays and Jewish holidays.
- Munnar's ghat roads are narrow and misty in the monsoon; daytime travel is safer.
- October to March is the best season; June to August brings heavy rain.
