About the trip
Alleppey, or Alappuzha, is the heart of Kerala's backwater country, a web of canals, lakes and paddy fields best seen from a houseboat or small shikara boat. Travellers staying at Poovar often head north for a day on the water or an overnight cruise. The drive follows the coastal highway through Trivandrum, Kollam and Kayamkulam, with coconut groves most of the way.

On the road
